In the spring of 2005, Steven Rafferty from Trent University organized a meeting of several Principal Investigators and their groups from Ontario and Quebec that were involved in nitric oxide research. Buoyed by the success of this friendly, trainee-centric meeting with excellent scientific content, it was decided that this should be a yearly event.
The name Canadian Nitric Oxide Society (CNOS), suggested by Bulent Mutus, was adopted along with the logo for CNOS.
The first meeting under the CNOS moniker was held at the University of Windsor in 2006 where groups from Université Laval, Concordia, Waterloo, Trent and Windsor were in attendance.
CNOS-2007 was held at Université Laval (Manon Couture/André Marette), CNOS 2008 in Concordia University (Anne English/Gilles Peslherbe) and CNOS-2009 at the University of Waterloo (Guy Guillemette) where the participant list expanded to include Queen’s University, McGill University, University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario, the host of CNOS-2010 (Qingping Feng).
It is our goal to grow CNOS-meetings to national prominence as a forum for highlighting scientific excellence in nitric oxide and related fields of research, while preserving the collegial and trainee-centric aspects of the meeting.
